Deborah L. Nansteel, Mezzo-Soprano

Miss Deborah Nansteel is a senior from Havelock, North Carolina. She is currently pursuing her BM in Vocal Performance and a BM in Vocal Jazz Studies at East Carolina University. Miss Nansteel is currently singing with the Jazz Ensemble A and the Chamber choirs at East Carolina. Last spring she was a soloist in Handel’s Israel and Egypt with the Chamber singers. She studies with Louise Toppin (voice) and Carroll Dashiell (jazz).

During Miss Nansteel’s time at ECU, she has had numerous opera roles such as Mother Marie in Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites, Aunt Emma in Rorem’s A Childhood Miracle, and Tituba in Robert Ward’s the Crucible directed by John Kramar. She is annual recipient of the La Musique Scholarship from East Carolina University.  She has competed in several competitions including winning second place in the national Orpheus Vocal Competition in Tennessee in 2005 and a state winner in NATS.  She has presented several solo vocal recitals and appeared as a guest on the recitals of others. In addition to her studies, she is third year as alto section leader at First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, NC.
